Assistant Nurse Manager
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Addictions Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is responsible for supervising the provision and management of patientcare services for an assigned shift or unit on a consistent basis. The ANM serves as a resource for nursing care across the system on an as needed basis and works with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. The ANM promotes quality patient care, patient safety and customer satisfaction. The ANM serves as the resource person for staff in explaining and executing policy and procedure. The ANM functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team; participates in quality improvement activities, educational activities and supports research endeavors. The role is consistent with the scope and standards outlined by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assures the delivery of quality patient care through direct supervision of clinical staff.
- Facilitates effective communication inter and intra departmentally to coordinate efforts, resolve operations problems and improve quality of patient care.
- Serves as a resource for all staff in meeting standards of practice.
- Completes Performance Appraisals per organizational requirements.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
- Pursues professional growth and development.
- Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by UBHC as defined in the scope of service.
- Reduces the risk of infection.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduation from a state accredited school of nursing.
- Two (2) years of progressively more responsible nursing experience, one (1) year of which shall have been in the service to which the candidate is applying.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity and intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities.
- Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
- Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric.
- Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
- May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
Special Conditions
- May be required to drive to other programs as needed.
