ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Samford University’s School of Health Professions seeks a collaborative faculty member interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. This full-time faculty position is a 12-month on-campus appointment and will begin during Spring 2026.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold an academic degree (i.e., Ph.D. or Ed.D.) or clinical degree (M.S., M.A., or SLP-D) in speech-language pathology from a CAA-accredited program. Applicants who hold a terminal academic degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) will be considered for a tenure-track appointment. Candidates without a terminal academic degree may be considered for a non-tenure-track position. A clinical doctorate is not considered a terminal academic degree.

Rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate must demonstrate a strong record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring students.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate academic excellence in Speech-Language Pathology through scholarly activity, successful teaching experience, grant funding, and active research and/or clinical engagement. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Phonology, fluency, cleft-lip and palate, or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Experience with academic teaching is preferred.

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders
  • Mentor students
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including research, presentations, and publications
  • Engage in departmental, school, college, and/or university service as assigned
  • Participate in departmental initiatives, program assessment, and accreditation activities
  • Support curriculum development and continuous improvement
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff
  • Other responsibilities assigned by department chair, dean, provost, or president and those described in the Samford University Faculty Handbook sections A6.1 and A6.2.

The College of Health Sciences includes four schools: School of Health Professions, Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing, McWhorter School of Pharmacy, and School of Public Health.
