The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position to begin in the academic year 2026-2027 with a primary doctrinal emphasis in Employment/Labor Law. Applicants for the position must hold a J.D. degree (or the equivalent) and should demonstrate the potential for success as a scholar, teacher, and future member of the UH and the Law Center’s broader community. The primary teaching focus for the position is to cover the doctrinal course(s) of employment and labor law. Other upper-level course teaching options are flexible. Willingness to teach elsewhere in the Law Center curriculum, including 1L courses, courses covered on the bar exam, or other upper-level topics, is also a positive factor. Further information about the Law Center and its programs is available at: http://www.law.uh.edu. This search is coordinated by Professor and Assistant Dean Meredith J. Duncan, the chair of UHLC’s faculty appointments committee. Interested applicants can send questions to Prof. Duncan at mjduncan@central.uh.edu. The University of Houston Law Center boasts an accomplished and collegial faculty representing a wide range of backgrounds, including over 16 who are members of the American Law Institute. The Law Center’s 2024 entering class has the strongest credentials in the school’s history. Since Fall of 2022, the Law Center occupies a brand-new, world-class facility designed by award-winning architects. The University of Houston is a Carnegie-designated Tier One public research university. UH serves the globally competitive Houston and Gulf Coast Region by providing world-class faculty, experiential learning, and strategic industry partnerships. The University of Houston Law Center is located in close proximity to the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical complex and an international leader in health and life sciences. Salary and rank commensurate with experience. The University of Houston is responsive to the needs of dual career couples. Qualifications: An attorney appointed to the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Required Attachments: Curriculum Vitae. After submitting your application in the system for this posting, please send Assistant Dean Duncan a courtesy email at mjduncan@central.uh.edu, attaching a resume or curriculum vitae. Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate. All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Individuals conducting research in critical infrastructure areas (i.e., communication infrastructure systems, cybersecurity systems, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment systems, and/or water treatment facilities) are subject to regular review to ensure the security and integrity of the research is maintained. The University of Houston System and its universities are Equal Opportunity Institutions. Everyone is encouraged to apply.
