Assistant or Associate Professor in Law and Artificial Intelligence (Tier 2 Canada Research Chair)

The Faculty of Law at Queen’s University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, or a tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor, with specialization in law and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a preferred starting date of July 1, 2026. This recruitment may fill up to two positions, including a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Law and AI. This CRC position is open to both external and internal candidates at Queen’s.

Qualifications: The Faculty seeks scholars who are or have the potential to become nationally and internationally recognized. Candidates typically have a JD or equivalent and a graduate degree in law or a related discipline. Key criteria include academic and teaching excellence, and the potential to lead multidisciplinary research, particularly engaging with equity, justice, and the societal impact of AI.

The successful candidate must demonstrate high-quality scholarly output, a history of independent research, peer-assessed publications in top journals, securing external funding, strong teaching potential at JD/LLB and graduate levels, and a commitment to the Faculty’s programs. They must also show ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment and contribute through service to the Faculty, University, and community. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Canada Research Chairs aim to foster research excellence. The successful candidate for the Tier 2 Chair must meet criteria such as being an emerging world-class researcher with creativity and originality, potential for international recognition, ability to attract and retain trainees, and proposing an innovative research program.

About Queen’s Law: Nationally and internationally recognized, Queen’s Law has a distinguished record in teaching and research. Located in Kingston, Ontario, it features Canada’s largest international law program and experts addressing AI in various fields, supported by grants and labs like the Centre for Law in the Contemporary Workplace and Conflict Analytics Lab.

About Queen’s University: A research-intensive institution with over 25,000 students, Queen’s is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ranking highly in global impact rankings.

How to Apply: Submit a complete application package including cover letter, CV, research statement, teaching statement, equity statement, names of three referees, and copies of top publications to Dean Colleen M. Flood at lawpositions@queensu.ca. The deadline is September 21, 2025.
