Assistant or Associate Professor (Research) - Department of Surgery, Division of Thoracic Surgery
The McGill University Department of Surgery, Division of Thoracic Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Research), focusing on research in biomedical engineering and organ-chip technology.
This position is in the Division of Thoracic Surgery and the Cancer Research Program at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), with potential co-appointment to the McGill University Goodman Cancer Institute and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The rank will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This is a non-tenure track position.
The Department of Surgery leads in academic medicine, supporting innovative clinical programs. The successful candidate will join a high-volume Division of Thoracic Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), a major teaching hospital in Montreal, Quebec.
The Division manages a high volume of thoracic oncology patients and maintains a large biorepository of patient-derived organoids and xenografts for thoracic cancers.
The RI-MUHC is a research center with over 3,000 researchers, and the Goodman Cancer Institute supports precision oncology. The Department of Biomedical Engineering focuses on health innovations.
Job Duties
The candidate will hold an endowed research chair from the Jarislowsky Foundation, with a competitive salary in a collaborative environment. Research should focus on areas like cancer cell biology, bioengineering, and thoracic or upper gastrointestinal malignancies.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing an independent, externally funded research program with interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Disseminating findings through publications and knowledge activities.
- Participating in teaching, supervision, and academic service.
- Contributing to the research mission of RI-MUHC and McGill University.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must have a Ph.D. with significant post-doctoral experience in cancer research, evidence of research achievements, and a research vision aligned with thoracic surgery goals.
