Job Description

The University of Indianapolis College of Education and Behavioral Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education, with a focus on teaching students with exceptionalities. Candidates who are ABD with evidence of timely degree completion will be considered. We are seeking a dynamic educator-scholar to prepare future teachers for mathematics instruction and student-centered strategies grounded in asset-based approaches and principles of differentiated instruction. The successful candidate will teach mathematics methods courses at the elementary and secondary levels and may contribute to special education coursework, depending on expertise and departmental needs. The role also includes supporting practice-based teacher preparation and engaging in scholarly and service activities aligned with the College’s mission.

  • Primary Responsibilities Teach mathematics methods courses for teacher candidates at the elementary and secondary levels, with the possibility of contributing to graduate-level instruction as programs expand.
  • Teach additional courses related to special education, depending on background and program alignment.
  • Design and deliver coursework that incorporates evidence-based practices for teaching mathematics to students with varied readiness levels and learning profiles
  • Supervise and mentor teacher candidates during clinical experiences and practicum.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, including research, presentations, or publications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school partners to support effective teacher preparation.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation efforts.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Required Qualifications Doctorate in Mathematics Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field (ABD considered with evidence of timely completion)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of P–12 mathematics teaching experience in settings supporting students with exceptionalities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective mathematics instruction for a variety of learners
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction for all learners through asset-based and differentiated approaches
  • Evidence of or potential for scholarly contributions in relevant fields
  • Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching or mentoring in higher education
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), High-Leverage Practices (HLPs), and/or Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
  • Background in practice-based teacher education approaches
  • Familiarity with accreditation and program evaluation processes in teacher education
  • Interest or experience in grant writing or securing external funding
