The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (mae.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University invites applications for an assistant professional practice faculty appointment within our Nuclear Engineering program. This position will start as early as Fall semester 2026. This opportunity has the option for a 9/12 or 12/12 position.
Position Overview
The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department will consider all qualified applicants in the field of nuclear engineering to teach a broad range of nuclear engineering courses. Successful candidates will demonstrate potential or evidence of their ability to support the development of a new undergraduate degree program in nuclear engineering to complement the existing nuclear engineering graduate program.
Performance Objectives
- Contribute to teaching activities in the Nuclear Engineering Program (75% of role). These teaching activities include theoretical, experimental, and/or computational courses.
- Engage in production of scholarship, creative works, and research consistent with the Educator Pathway or Practitioner Pathway in the Department Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure document (see MAE-APT.pdf)
- Engage in service to the university and the international community in ways consistent with the Educator Pathway or Practitioner Pathway in the Department Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure document (see MAE-APT.pdf)
Education and Experience Requirements
Required
- Applicants must have earned a doctorate or have 25 years of relevant experience and a masters in nuclear engineering or a closely related engineering or science discipline
- Demonstrated efforts in teaching, service, and/or research that reflect Ohio States Shared Values
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a professional setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Desired
- A doctorate in nuclear engineering or a closely related engineering or science discipline
- Experience developing new courses in Nuclear Engineering
- Experience using artificial intelligence or machine learning in Nuclear Engineering applications
- Experience or training in teaching and mentoring within a professional context is desirable.
Additional Information
The final offer for this position will be determined based on the candidates qualifications and experience. Salary and start-up packages are negotiated by the department chair and may vary depending on individual circumstances.

- Attachment 4: Teaching Portfolio: The teaching portfolio should be limited to 5 pages and include:
- A brief summary of teaching experience and responsibilities
- A reflection on teaching philosophy and goals
- A list of courses and/or trainings taught (including course title, date, number of students, educational background of students), each with a short description of the course and/or course goals
- A discussion of teaching /mentoring methods and strategies
- A discussion of activities undertaken to improve teaching and/or mentoring
- A summary of goals and plans for courses you would like to implement in our program
Note: If the candidate does not have substantial classroom teaching experience, they should draw from experiences that are similar for the Teaching Portfolio. This may include employee mentoring, training seminars in industry, graduate teaching assistant activities, etc.
