Assistant Professor-Academic Clinician Track-Molecular Genetics/Genomics-Pathology

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of the clinical practice of molecular genetics and genomic pathology with broad experience in the review and interpretation of massively parallel sequencing data, advanced genomics, molecular and genomic test development, and, for appropriately certified candidates, cytogenetics. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, a thoughtful and consistent approach to clinical data review and reporting and be proactive in identifying and solving problems. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree. Certification or eligibility is required by either the American Board of Pathology, in Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) or the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG).

Teaching responsibilities may include didactic teaching as well as case-based teaching during case sign-out with residents, fellows, and medical students in diverse aspects of clinical molecular genetics and genomics.

Clinical responsibilities may include review, interpretation, and sign-out of DNA- and RNA-based molecular assays, including massively parallel sequencing and targeted molecular pathology assays, as well as cytogenetics for candidates who are appropriately certified. Additional responsibilities will include participation in the design, validation, and implementation of new tests in the Division of Precision and Computational Diagnostics. Experience in the development of molecular genomic assays, especially laboratory-developed tests (LDTs), is desirable. Periodic interaction with divisional, departmental, and enterprise-wide faculty and staff for collaborations and/or communications relevant to the clinical laboratory will be required. Ability to review and efficiently integrate molecular, genomic, cytogenetic, and relevant clinical and pathologic data for reporting and dissemination of results will be important for effectiveness in this position.

We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
