The Department of Accounting & Finance in the Lucas College of Business at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for Assistant Professor of Finance beginning in August 2026. The candidate will teach Financial Management or Financial Institutions in undergraduate or graduate programs as well as corporate finance topics in undergraduate, MS Financial Analytics, and MBA programs. The faculty ideally should have research that is broadly related to corporate finance and financial institutions.
The Department of Accounting & Finance teaches undergraduate coursework in finance, accounting, and tax disciplines with a technology flavor and encourages cross-discipline research. It houses both the Masters of Science in Accounting Analytics program and the new Masters of Science in Financial Analytics degree with a corporate finance focus. Centers of excellence include the Center for Banking and Financial Services, the Accounting Advancement Center, and the High Technology Tax Institute. Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Finance by start of appointment
- Scholarly Academic qualification under AACSB standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience in corporate finance or financial institutions
- Professional designations such as Chartered Financial Analyst
- Excellent teaching experience at the university level
Key Responsibilities:
- Primary disciplinary needs are in corporate finance and financial institutions. Teaching assignments are at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in traditional and accelerated formats.
- The candidate must be actively engaged in scholarly activities conducting research, developing grants, presenting professional papers, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- The candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
- Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
