Job Description Summary

The School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) at Wentworth Institute of Technology invites applications for a full-time position in Architecture at the rank of Assistant Professor (though exceptional candidates at higher ranks may be considered) to begin in Fall 2026.

The successful candidate will contribute to a forward-looking design curriculum integrating advanced technologies and innovative tools into the design process. Responsibilities include teaching lecture courses, seminars, and design studios across the undergraduate and graduate programs.

The standard teaching load is up to 12 credit hours per semester — typically one 6-credit studio and one 4-credit seminar/lecture, or three 4-credit lecture courses. Coursework may include foundation-level courses in building construction, structures, and systems/technology, as well as more advanced upper-level seminars and lectures in areas such as digital design and fabrication, computational design, building performance analysis, and materials science. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to connect design thinking, technical expertise, and emerging tools within a studio-based, hands-on learning environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop and deliver integrated coursework
  • Pursuing a robust research and scholarship agenda
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Contributing to service at the school, university, and community levels

The new faculty member will also play an essential role in launching the graduate program in design and developing new graduate certificates, thereby contributing to the future of design education at Wentworth.

Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in architecture or a closely related discipline
  • Master’s degree
  • Potential to establish a clear research and scholarship agenda
  • Potential to excel in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship
  • Teaching and research focus on advanced technologies and innovative tools that inform the design process
  • Experience teaching design studio or related courses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree and/or professional licensure in architecture
  • Record of excellence in research and scholarship
  • Record of excellence in pedagogy and curriculum development
  • Record of excellence in professional practice
  • Record of transdisciplinary teaching and scholarship
  • Evidence of integrating design, technology, and research through scholarly and creative work
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: building construction, building systems and technology, structures, building performance analysis, digital design and fabrication, computational design, or materials science
  • Demonstrated flexibility in teaching to address diverse student needs and interests

Position Details:

The position includes a comprehensive benefits package and a competitive salary. Benefits are described briefly HR.

At this time, the university is unable to sponsor applicants for H-1B visas.

It is expected that the salary range for this position is between $89,042 and $102,686. The low end of the pay range in all faculty searches is at the minimum salary for the rank per the collective bargaining agreement between Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Wentworth Faculty Federation, Local 2403, AFT MA, AFL-CIO (the “Faculty Federation” or “Federation”). The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment. The range does not include any salary stipend from a named-professorship. Note that these are two semester equivalent salaries.

This position comes with a 10% retirement contribution (no matching required) according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Wentworth Faculty Federation.

Wentworth uses a three-semester per year schedule. The faculty contracts are for two semesters (fall and spring) with optional summer teaching, which is paid on a prorated basis of the provided two-semester salary. This means the annual compensation could reach 1.5 times the provided two-semester salary, depending on the availability of summer classes.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit the following in a single PDF document:

  1. Cover letter (1 page) describing areas of expertise and qualifications
  2. Current curriculum vitae
  3. Teaching and scholarship statement (maximum three pages) describing pedagogical philosophy and research agenda
  4. Portfolio with evidence of research/creative practice and teaching, if applicable
  5. Contact information for three professional references. Candidates will be notified before the University contacts their references

Review of applications will begin on January 5, 2026, and continue until the position is filled. The position is expected to be filled for Fall 2026.
