Job Description
Basic Function: The successful candidate will be responsible for lecture instruction in the subject area of business law in the Business Administration discipline. This full-time, tenure-track position is in Business Administration, part of the School of Business and Management. The Business Administration - Business Law professor will provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational and career goals in business law classes. The business law faculty member will primarily teach courses that introduce the specific areas of the legal environment that affect individuals and businesses with an emphasis on contracts, legal history, civil procedure, constitutional law, torts, intellectual property, cyber law, criminal law, international law, labor and employment law, and agency. The faculty member will also take part in curriculum management and development, advise students, maintain current expertise in the field, and participate on college committees.
Education:
Master in business, business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in economics, personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree OR Bachelor's in economics with a business emphasis AND Master's in personnel management, public administration, or JD or LL.B. degree OR the equivalent. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.)
Experience:
Minimum of three years of demonstrated teaching experience in the classroom or training is desired. Preference will be given to those with higher education experience teaching U.S. business law and experience practicing business-related law. The ideal candidate will be able to teach general business classes, in addition to business law classes. A minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated excellence in preparation and knowledge in the business law subject area, including demonstrated work experience in business-related areas associated with the use of law or work experience in the legal profession. Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes is desired. Strong commitment to maintaining currency in the field is strongly desired, including updating of curriculum.
Required Qualifications:
Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various available activities and seminars.
- The instructional assignment will include lecture classes in Business Administration- business law utilizing a variety of teaching methods and technologies to keep students motivated and engaged. Some duties or instruction may occur off-site.
- Maintain industry expertise in order to assist in keeping the Business Administration curriculum up to date with modern educational and industry standards; including the incorporation of industry certifications into the curriculum.
- Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
- Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
- Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, Improvement of Instruction, and other professional matters are also expected of all department faculty.
- Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
Conditions of Employment:
Ten-month, tenure-track position. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
