Assistant Professor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is recruiting for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026. We seek a biological anthropologist conducting research at the intersection of human biology and health. The ideal candidate will bring a broad foundation in anthropology to the study of connections between behavior, biology, health, and environment, and will work closely with community groups and/or have an applied focus. Topics might include—but are not limited to—nutrition, reproduction, growth and development, chronic or infectious diseases, microbiomes, or language development. Preference will be given to candidates who have, can develop, or otherwise support research projects based in Charlotte, North Carolina, or the Southeastern United States. Must have Ph.D. in Anthropology (or related field if the primary advisor was an anthropologist) in hand by August 2026.

Job responsibilities include teaching a four-field introductory anthropology course, an introduction to biological anthropology course with a laboratory component that satisfies the university's general education requirements for laboratory science, and undergraduate and graduate electives. The teaching load is two courses per semester. We are particularly interested in candidates who can support our innovative 3-year dual degree (MA/MPH) with Public Health Sciences.

Minimum Experience / Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
