Position Summary
La Salle University's Natural Sciences Department invites applicants for a full-time, academic year, non-tenure-track faculty position to teach general chemistry for science majors, general chemistry for first-year nursing and health science majors, and organic chemistry laboratory. There is potential to teach and contribute to La Salle's new cosmetic chemistry major and chemistry electives in cosmetic chemistry or forensic science. Expertise in one or more of the following chemistry fields is a plus: cosmetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or forensic science.
The La Salle University Chemistry and Biochemistry Program fosters a collaborative and interdisciplinary culture dedicated to training the next generation of chemical industry professionals, researchers, science educators, and medical practitioners. We seek a dedicated chemistry teacher with a strong commitment to undergraduate education, excellence in teaching chemistry at the university-level, and advising science students to achieve their full academic potential.
Essential Duties
- Teach assigned courses and prepare course materials consistent with departmental learning objectives.
- Teach and develop curriculum for undergraduate science courses in chemistry, including, but not limited to, general chemistry lecture and laboratory, organic chemistry laboratory, and general chemistry for nursing and health science majors.
- Develop and teach in the cosmetic chemistry major or science core classes offered by the department.
- Provide academic advising for La Salle science students, including mentorship, guidance, and support.
- Maintain and practice safety in a teaching laboratory environment.
- Participate in department and University service, including serving on committees, attending departmental and University meetings and functions, assisting with departmental recruiting and events, and other duties as assigned by the Natural Sciences Department Chair.
Required Qualifications
- A masters in chemistry or related field.
- Knowledge and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- A PhD in chemistry or related field.
- Chemistry teaching experience at the undergraduate level or knowledge of effective chemistry education practices.
- Expertise, experience, or knowledge in one or more of the following fields: cosmetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical education, or forensic chemistry.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- The job requires the ability to teach lecture or lab sections of chemistry courses.
- The job requires movement around the classroom or laboratory, lifting heavy objects and performing and teaching standard laboratory techniques in a chemistry laboratory.
- It may be necessary for the position to teach an evening class.
