Postdoctoral Fellow in Electrophysiology

The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Voelcker Preclinical Pharmacology Core, College of Science, Department of Chemistry.
Position Summary
Under the mentorship of core director Dr. Nicholas Clanton, the selected candidate will contribute to multiple drug discovery programs in areas including pain, cancer, cardiac safety, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Primary duties will include:
- Planning and execution of electrophysiology studies to be completed by the Core
- Development of stable cell lines and assay validation for ion channel screening
- Management and maintenance of a Sophion QPatch48 automated patch clamp system
- Management of contract research projects in electrophysiology, neuroscience, and related fields
- Planning and execution of in vivo studies related to ion channel research or behavioral neuroscience
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams for multiple ion channel-related drug discovery programs
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications
- Grant writing related to ion channel research
- Management the facility Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) protocol and other related regulatory documents
- Training and mentoring of undergraduate students in automated patch clamp electrophysiology
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in neuroscience, physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field
- 4+ years' experience with patch clamp electrophysiology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with automated patch clamp electrophysiology, preferably Sophion Bioscience systems.
- 2+ years' experience with animal handling including injections, blood draws, and behavioral assays related to common in vivo pain models
- Familiarity with common molecular cloning techniques (e.g., Gateway cloning and Gibson assembly).
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, transfection, and generation of stable recombinant cell lines.
- Proficiency with pharmacological data processing, statistical analysis, and presentation using Prism Graphpad or related software
- Working knowledge of assay development and validation for drug screening.
Additional Requirements:
- Travel to scientific conferences and meetings may be required.

Salary Range: NIH published salary minimums or higher, commensurate with experience
