Assistant Professor - China & Global Development

Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor (University Lectureship) - China and Global Development to be based in the Centre of Development Studies and the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS).

The post will be available from 1 September 2026.

Candidates should have a proven specialist academic profile (and relevant language skills) in the study of China and Global Development as well as in one or more of the following areas: Comparative Politics, Political Economy, International Relations or Political Thought. Applicants must hold a PhD and be able to demonstrate an outstanding research record.

The successful candidate must be able to play a substantial role in the teaching of China and Global Development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including giving lectures and seminars to a minimum level of 40 hours a year. The successful candidate will be expected to make a collegial contribution to the governance and administration of the Department, as well as that of the Centre of Development Studies, and possess a flexible approach to duties. The successful candidate will also be required to engage in the small group teaching of undergraduates (Cambridge supervisions).
