Assistant Professor, Clinician Educator
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in emergency medicine. Applicants must have an M.D. degree and be ABEM certified or board eligible.
Teaching responsibilities may include bedside clinical teaching of emergency medicine residents, students, and off-service trainees, as well as lectures, journal clubs, case conferences, simulation teaching, small group discussions, and other formats. Dedication to teaching is highly valued.
Clinical responsibilities may include providing outstanding clinical care to emergency department patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and Pennsylvania Hospital. These include high-acuity, complex patients, as well as those with less acute illnesses and injuries. Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center. Superior clinical judgment, professionalism, evidence-based practice knowledge, compassion, and teamwork are valued.
Research or scholarship responsibilities include independent research, with a mandatory promotion probationary period requiring significant scholarship. Candidates with post-residency research methodology or fellowship training may have an advantage. A reduced clinical schedule is initially available, with expectations for independent funding later. Mentoring and teamwork are encouraged, with opportunities for multidisciplinary projects across departments and schools.
The Department manages emergency services at three sites with a combined annual census of 145,000 visits and collaborates with other hospitals. It has a 4-year residency program, multiple fellowships, and acclaimed research programs. There are over 80 faculty and affiliations with other institutions.
