Job Description

The department of Counseling and Student Personnel at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a probationary, Assistant Professor beginning August 17, 2026. This position requires a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited institution (conferred by date of appointment), a current license in mental health counseling (LPC, LPCC, LMHC), and the ability to obtain a mental health counseling license in Minnesota by the end of the first academic year of employment. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in Counseling Ethics, Counseling Theories, Family Counseling, Child and Adolescent Counseling, Group Counseling, Appraisal Techniques, Intervention and Treatment Planning, and Professional Issues in Mental Health Counseling and undergraduate courses in Group Procedures, Interpersonal Helping Skills, and Counseling the Chemically Dependent Family.

  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
  • This position will supervise and advise graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.
  • Demonstrated experience in the disciplinary field through teaching or scholarly activity.
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited institution.
  • Evidence of degree completion by date of employment.
  • Currently hold mental health counseling licensure (LPC, LPCC, LMHC) and have the potential to obtain licensure in Minnesota by the end of the first academic year of employment.
  • Experience in mental health counseling and supervision in a clinical setting.
  • Competency in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning and in counseling individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan.

Preferred Qualification

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Extensive teaching experience in the discipline at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach the courses listed, along with additional courses depending on the department needs: Counseling Ethics, Counseling Theories, Family Counseling, Child and Adolescent Counseling, Group Counseling, Appraisal Techniques, Intervention and Treatment Planning, and Professional issues in Mental Health Counseling.
  • Demonstrated preparation to teach, advise and support a wide variety of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain an active research agenda.
