The Chinese University of Hong Kong Applications are invited for:- Department of Cultural and Religious Studies Assistant Professor (Cultural Studies) (Ref: 250001KP) (Closing Date: October 31, 2025) In 2025, The Chinese University of Hong Kong is #32 in the QS World University Rankings. The Division of Cultural Studies (from the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts) invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in Public Humanities. Our new BA programme in Public Humanities focuses not only on research and theories but also on cultural practices, knowledge transfer, and public engagement. We aim to nurture a new generation of cultural mediators, producers, and professionals to meet the needs and challenges of contemporary society. Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant humanities or social sciences subject, and with a strong interest and commitment in Public Humanities. Preferred areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, cultural management, cultural studies, heritage studies, museum studies, and/or digital humanities. Research and teaching experience in cultural heritage, particularly in community-based or practice-led heritage studies, as well as experience in public engagement and co-creation with cultural institutions, will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest and expertise in contemporary cultural practices and academic debates, along with some knowledge of Hong Kong culture and/ or a keen interest in digital humanities. An ideal candidate should bring innovative research that aligns with the department’s established strengths in critical approaches and contributes to the university’s strategic focus areas. The appointee is expected to teach at BA, MA and MPhil/PhD levels.
