Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Sciences, Organic Chemistry
Department Summary
The Chemical Sciences Department at BSU is a close-knit community of students, teachers, mentors and scholars. We pride ourselves on small class sizes (capped at 32) and the individual attention that our students receive both in the classroom and the laboratory. Undergraduate research is an integral part of the program. Faculty members are actively engaged in collaborative research with students. This type of attention, which can be rare at the larger 'research oriented' universities, provides our students with a learning environment that is unique among public institutions. Students regularly present their research work at local and national conferences. Our department has about 31% students of color and 37% first generation college students. Our program has three ACS-certified BS tracks in Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Professional Chemistry, and a BA in Chemistry as well as minors in Biochemistry and Chemistry. We graduate approximately 15-20 students per year with a total of 80-90 majors. A successful candidate will be a faculty member who works with their colleagues to help the department to serve and support the needs of all students in our inclusive campus community.
