Job Description: The Department of Statistical Sciences at Wake Forest University welcomes applications for three tenure-track faculty positions as Assistant Professor of Statistics. We welcome applications from all areas within Statistics, Biostatistics, and Data Science. The positions begin July 1, 2026. Skillful teaching is a key responsibility, with a 2-2 teaching load that includes courses at both introductory and advanced undergraduate levels and at the graduate level. Additionally, the successful candidate will maintain a robust program of research and publication, in keeping with standards of the discipline, and support the Wake Forest University mission through service to the department, the College of Liberal Arts, and the university.

Position Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field is required for the position; ABD candidates are invited to apply. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach courses in statistics or biostatistics, initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in their area(s) of expertise, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders.

Application Instructions: Interested applicants are invited to submit the following materials through Interfolio or https://hr.wfu.edu/careers/: 1) a cover letter that outlines interest in and qualifications for the position, which must include an explanation of how the candidate’s professional interests and goals fit into Wake Forest’s unique teacher-scholar model; 2) a CV; 3) a statement that describes the applicant’s approach to teaching students across a wide and varied spectrum of values, identities, skills, and professional ambitions, as well as their experience leading undergraduate or graduate courses and any future teaching interests; 4) a statement that describes the applicant’s research agenda, particularly in the context of the current state of the discipline; 5) a copy of the graduate transcripts; and 6) three letters of recommendation. At least two of the letters of recommendation should address the scholarship and/or scholarship potential of the applicant; at least one of the letters of recommendation should address the teaching ability of the applicant. Additional Information: The Department of Statistical Sciences has fourteen permanent faculty members, whose research interests include the areas of: actuarial science, applied probability, Bayesian methods, bioinformatics, biostatistics, causal inference, clinical trials, environmental statistics, foundations of statistics, functional data analysis, measurement error, missing data, networks, epidemiology, spatio-temporal models, and statistics education. Statistics programs within the department include both a B.A. and a B.S. in Statistics, a B.S. in Applied Statistics, a B.S. in Decision Analytics, an M.S. in Statistics, and a Graduate Certificate in Data Science.
