Department Information
The courses in the Department of Aviation Science and Management provide foundational knowledge to students in Flight Technology, Air Traffic Control, Aviation Management, and other aviation programs through core aviation academics. In addition to the foundational academic coursework, the Department delivers the ground school courses required by the FAA under 14CFR Part 141 for training from private pilots through Airplane Multi-Engine Commercial, CFI, and CFII. Degree programs in the ASM department are the Bachelor of Science in Aviation Science and Management with tracks in Flight and Management (available online). The Department of ASM also offers an Associate of Applied Science in Air Traffic Management degree as well as certificates in Airline Management and Airport Management.
Job Summary
This is a 10-month position with a teaching load of 12 to 15 semester hours per semester of undergraduate courses (depending on degree) in areas to include, but not limited to: aircraft systems, crew resource management, flight operations, and FAR Part 141 ground school courses. Work will also include participation in research in a variety of aviation-related subjects consistent with education and experience. This is a ten-month tenure track which involves teaching, scholarship, and service.
Responsibilities
- Teach various aviation undergraduate courses (15 credit hours per semester) in the Aviation Science and Management Department
- Advises and mentors aviation students on academic and career aspirations.
- Develops course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and lab projects.
- Constructs training aids and mock-ups.
- Instructs the Aviation Science and Management courses.
- Evaluates student achievement and competence.
- Collaborates with faculty and industry advisory committee.
- Willingness to learn and use D2L, the online teaching and learning platform.
Required Qualifications
Required Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in aviation required. If a Master's or Doctorate Degree is not in Aviation, extensive experience in Aviation along with a Master's or Doctorate Degree will be required for this position.
Other Required Qualifications
Demonstrate the ability to teach a broad array of aviation training courses.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a doctoral degree in aviation
Preferred Experience
Civilian aviation experience with a background in FAR Part 121 or 135 operations
Industry experience in aviation
Teaching experience in aviation
Other Required Qualifications
Although this position does not involve flight instruction, possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certificated Flight Instructor rating (CFI) and/or Ground Instructor certificates (AGI, IGI.
