Job Description
The Department of Health Science at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a Tenure-Track (Probationary) position in Applied Health Science in the Department of Health Science. The successful candidate will have a Doctorate or terminal degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, or a closely related field. (Conferred on an official transcript by December 31, 2026). Must also have a current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES®) credential or CHES®/MCHES® eligible at the time of appointment. A copy of current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES®) card or evidence of eligibility through NCHEC® will be required if selected for the interview.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate Applied Health Science and graduate Master of Public Health (MPH) courses, as well as large enrollment general education health courses. These courses may include, but are not limited to: Personal Health, First Aid and CPR, Drug Education, Introduction to Applied Health Science, Foundations of Public Health, Health Communication and Advocacy, Professional Preparation in Health Careers, Environmental Health, Global Health, Biostatistics, Behavior Change Foundations and Strategies, and courses pertaining to health education program planning, implementation, and evaluation. The position requires actively engaging in scholarship and continued professional development. All university faculty members are expected to participate in service to the discipline, department, university, and community. In addition, faculty members are responsible for advising and mentoring students.
A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
The successful candidate may be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.
The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
This position will advise undergraduate majors.
This position will supervise/advise graduate students.
Minimum Qualifications

- Doctorate or terminal degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Health Behavior, or closely related field. (Conferred on an official transcript by December 31, 2026).
- Doctoral coursework must reflect the Eight Areas of Responsibility of a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) (http://www.nchec.org/responsibilities-and-competencies).
- Current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES®) credential or CHES®/MCHES® eligible at the time of appointment. A copy of current Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES®) card or evidence of eligibility through NCHEC® will be required if selected for interview.
Preferred Qualification
- Demonstrated experience fostering an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment while working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
- Two (2) years of college teaching experience in health education or closely related field (experience as a graduate teaching assistant is acceptable).
- Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of the courses listed, along with additional courses depending on the department’s needs.
- Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree with or without CPH.
- University teaching experience in a large enrollment general education course.
- Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery.
- Demonstrated commitment to active learning and to developing innovative ways to support learning.
- Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and presentation skills.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications and/or professional presentations.
- Currently hold or have potential to obtain certification and instructor certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Demonstrated preparation to teach, advise and support a wide variety of students.
Salary Ranges
Assistant Professor: $64,066 - $186,015
Salary Type: Depends on qualifications
Position: Tenure-Track (Probationary*)
