Job Description

The department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a probationary Assistant Professor beginning August 18, 2026. This position requires teaching and advising to support the undergraduate and graduate programs in exercise science and exercise physiology.

The successful candidate should have a Doctorate or terminal degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or related field by August 1, 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Biomechanics, Science of Strength Training Kinesiology, and Group Exercise Instruction. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate courses in Biomechanics Motor Learning, Evidence-based practice in Exercise Physiology. Potentially teaching other courses in the undergraduate Exercise Science and graduate Exercise Physiology programs based on program needs.

The successful candidate should currently hold or have potential to become certified in NSCA-CSCS (within 2 years) and First Aid/CPR/AED.

This position requires active engagement in scholarship, advising of master's thesis, professional development, services to the University, community, and discipline.

A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty-four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.

The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.

The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, or related field.
  • Currently hold or have potential to become certified in NSCA-CSCS (within 2 years) and First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Evidence of degree completion by August 1, 2026.

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student growth through teaching, advising, and supporting a wide variety of students and incorporation of experiential learning into coursework.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in Biomechanics, Motor Learning, Strength Training, Kinesiology, Group Exercise Instruction and other related courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to program and department activities, university services, or assessment processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Demonstrated success or strong potential for productivity in research including human subjects, grant writing, creative activity, publications, professional presentations and scholarship.

Other Requirements

Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

About the Department

The Department of Human Performance offers undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Physical Education-DAPE, and Sports Management and graduate programs in Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, and Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology. The Exercise Science program has an enrollment of 340 undergraduate and 10-15 graduate students.

Salary

Assistant Professor: $64,066 - $186,015
