Job Description
The Department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a probationary, Assistant Professor beginning August 19, 2026. The successful candidate will have a doctorate degree in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology, Kinesiology or related field by August 1, 2026. This position requires teaching and advising to support the undergraduate programs in Human Performance and graduate program in Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the following undergraduate and graduate courses: HP 290 Psycho-social Aspects of Sport, HP 630 Techniques of Research, HP 646 Exercise Psychology and Behavior Change, HP 648 Professional Ethics in Sport and Exercise Psychology, HP 672 Psychology of Sport and Athletic Injury, HP 683 Working with Diverse Populations in Sport Psychology, HP 649 Sport and American Culture, HP 690 Practicum in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology, and/or other courses based on program needs and successful candidate's expertise. The successful candidate should currently hold or have potential to become a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and approved mentor with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology within the first year of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct supervision to graduate students during day, afternoon, and evening hours depending on the consulting schedule for team sessions. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individual supervision of graduate students' individual client sessions.
This position requires active engagement in scholarship, advising of master's thesis, continuing preparation, services to the University, community and discipline.
- A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
- The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
- May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
- The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
- All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
- The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Human Performance and graduate courses in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology.
- The successful candidate will supervise graduate students' Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology consulting.
- The successful candidate will work with program faculty to develop new sites for practicum and internship consulting experiences.
- The successful candidate will be available weekday afternoons and evenings for direct supervision of graduate students' Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology consulting depending on consulting schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of diverse backgrounds and to foster a professional environment that is inclusive, respectful, and equitable for all.
- Doctorate or terminal degree in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology, Kinesiology or related field.
- Currently hold or have potential to become a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and approved mentor with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (within 1 year).
- Evidence of degree completion by August 1, 2026

- Demonstrated success or strong potential for productivity in research including human subjects, grant writing, creative activity, publications, professional presentations and scholarship.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise graduate students in applied Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with internship sites and coordinate internship delivery.
- Demonstrated experience fostering an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment while working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
