Basic Function:
The successful candidate will carry primary responsibility for lecture instruction in the humanities courses. The assignment may include courses in world religions, religion in America, arts and ideas, American culture, death, and honors level courses as well as other courses in the discipline.
Education:
Master's degree in humanities OR the equivalent. Candidates with doctoral degrees encouraged to apply. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions.)
Experience:
A minimum of two-years of successful college teaching of courses in the humanities is desired, teaching assistantships included. The ideal candidate will exhibit teaching competence both in world religions AND in historical humanities. Candidates with graduate level coursework in more than one discipline in the humanities, and those with experience in the assessment of student learning outcomes are preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The candidate should display positive and effective interpersonal skills when interacting with both students and staff. In particular, the ideal candidate should have (1) experience and expertise in culturally-responsive teaching in the humanities, particularly as it relates to students' lives, interests, and communities; (2) recent experience working with historically underserved students in the classroom; (3) a willingness to examine and refine instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support various groups of marginalized students; and (4) demonstrable knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take the lead, as discipline area expert, in the development of curriculum and Course Outlines of Record (COR) for the introductory courses that meet General Education, Area of Emphasis, California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC), Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) and UC lower division major requirements for humanities degrees.
- Demonstrate commitment to student equity and ability to facilitate, participate and lead in programmatic efforts, both within the department and campus-wide, to help students in low-performing groups succeed.
- Teach courses as assigned based on enrollment management principles and within discipline and department guidelines for course rotation and course scheduling, including courses in face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities.
- Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluations, office hours and institutional service such as participation on college committees, involvement in student activities and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
- Expected professional obligations include: participation in discipline/department decision-making processes, Improvement of Instruction, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, maintenance of legal documents, fulfillment of FLEX obligations, and adherence to FERPA requirements.
- Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
- Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
Conditions of Employment:
- Ten-month, tenure-track position.
- Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.

- Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
- Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.
- Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District and College promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
