The School of Computing at Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks applicants for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Applied Artificial Intelligence, starting August 11, 2026. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
The selected candidate will teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in Computer Science, conduct high quality research and direct graduate student research in computer science, participate in activities that support the school's mission of teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in computer science or related field. ABD applicants will be considered if all requirements for the PhD will be completed by August 11, 2026. If all requirements for the PhD are not completed by this date, a term, non-tenure track appointment at a reduced rate of pay may be offered in accordance with university policy (https://policies.siu.edu/personnel-policies/chapter2/ch2faps/conting.php).
- Evidence of high quality ongoing and future research.
- Teaching competency for computer science courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Specialty in Artificial Intelligence with extensive experiences applying AI techniques in various disciplines.
- Extensive experience applying AI techniques in various disciplines is preferred.
