The College of Science and Mathematics, Chemistry and Biochemistry department at Augusta University (AU), responding to enrollment growth in recent years, is actively seeking multiple candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor, anticipating beginning in the Fall of 2024. Primary duties include teaching introductory general chemistry, chemistry for non-majors, organics chemistry including lectures and/or labs. These positions also include a service and research component to strengthen our undergraduate programs. These positions are not considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
Teaching
Teach courses, labs, and selected lectures to undergraduate and/or graduate students on topics in Chemistry and Biochemistry and also core science courses including organic, biochemistry, analytical, physical and inorganic chemistries.
Scholarship
Research and other scholarly activities (publishing, presenting) in the field of chemistry and biochemistry to involve undergraduate science majors, and instruct graduate students in development.
Service
Service to the university entails work on department, college, and university committees, work groups, and/or campaigns in order to promote and support Augusta University's mission.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Education, or a closely related field.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Postdoctoral position and prior classroom teaching experience.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
