The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2026. Candidates are expected to provide innovative and equity-based teaching in upper division undergraduate inorganic and/or physical chemistry, in addition to introductory and lower division courses and, if applicable, MS Materials Science courses. Candidates are also expected to develop and sustain an externally funded and independent research agenda in an area of inorganic or physical chemistry and/or materials science. Expertise that complements existing departmental research capabilities and has the potential for research collaboration and/or course development is highly desirable. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Summary

The new faculty member will teach and develop curricula for upper division courses in the candidate's area of expertise in addition to introductory and general chemistry courses. They will develop and maintain an independent and externally funded research program involving undergraduate students and contribute as appropriate to mentoring MS students in the MS Materials Science or MS Environmental Science programs. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in service-related activities at all levels of this institution.

The new faculty member must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population. They will work effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines. In addition, they are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the University's strategic plan.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred.
  • Research expertise and experience should be in an area of inorganic and/or physical chemistry, with an interest in materials science as a plus.
  • University-level teaching experience is preferred.
