Assistant Professor in Experimental Biophysics & Bio-Inspired Materials
Job Summary
The Soft Condensed Matter & Biophysics group at the Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science is seeking an assistant professor to strengthen and expand its research portfolio in Biophysics & Bio-Inspired Materials. This role involves conducting excellent research, publishing in leading journals, pursuing funding, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations.
Responsibilities
Develop an independent research line based on expertise in the field. Collaborate with groups within the Debye Institute, Institute for Theoretical Physics, and Life Sciences departments. Utilize existing labs for research. Inspire students through lectures in Bachelor's and Master's programs, supervise theses, contribute to course development including a Master's track in Biophysics and a minor at the Bachelor's level. Engage in societal impact activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
A Master and PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Biophysics. Enthusiasm for student supervision and innovative teaching. Experience in developing courses, especially in interdepartmental programs. A track record of international publications in leading journals. Potential for acquiring external research funds. Readiness to supervise PhD candidates and postdocs. Strong teamwork skills in scientific and societal communities. Willingness to obtain the University Teaching Qualification if not already held.
What the Employer Offers
A position for 18 months with the prospect of permanent employment. Full-time working week of 38 hours. Gross monthly salary between €4,537 and €7,056 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. 8% holiday pay, 8.3% year-end bonus, pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment terms.
