Augusta University's Department of Art and Design is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Graphic Design, anticipated to begin August 2026. We seek individuals who can teach entry-level and advanced courses in graphic design, including UI/UX, motion graphics, design history, typography, and design for print and publication, as well as foundation-level 2D design as needed. This position carries a 2/2 teaching load with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and professional practice. Responsibilities
- Teach two studio courses per semester in foundation and graphic design (BFA and BA concentrations).
- Develop and enhance departmental curricula while contributing to program growth.
- Mentor and advise undergraduate students, supporting portfolio development and professional preparation.
- Maintain an active program of creative research or scholarship with regional, national, or broader impact.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service through committees and community engagement.
Required Qualifications
MFA in Graphic Design or a closely related field, or equivalent terminal degree in the appropriate discipline. In exceptional cases, candidates with equivalent professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments may be considered.
Assistant Professor- Terminal degree (or nearing its completion), or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of effectiveness as a teacher and potential to excel in mentoring undergraduate students.
- Evidence of ongoing scholarly or creative activity with potential for regional, national, or broader impact.
- A combination of industry and teaching experience is highly desirable.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
