Assistant Professor in Studio Art in Print Media
The Department of Art & Art History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Studio Art, with a specialization in Print media. This is a full-time, nine-month academic year appointment starting July 1, 2026.
We seek an artist with a robust and dynamic practice, supported by an active record of exhibitions and publication that reflects a broad understanding of contemporary print media and its related disciplines. The successful candidate will be well-versed in contemporary critical and theoretical issues in art and demonstrate versatility in teaching across the printmaking curriculum.
Candidates should possess technical expertise across a wide range of printmaking processes and an understanding of the conceptual and material possibilities that define the expanded field of print media. In addition to teaching core print media courses, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new courses that draw on their creative practice and interdisciplinary interests. These may include, but are not limited to, socially engaged practices, book arts, painting, drawing, or performance. There are also opportunities to collaborate with faculty across campus to design interdisciplinary courses that extend the reach of print media into new contexts.
The teaching load is two courses per semester, and all studio faculty serve on several MFA graduate committees per year. Studio faculty may also occasionally teach MFA seminars, First Year Seminars and special topics courses as part of this teaching load. In addition to teaching and creative research, all faculty contribute to the department’s shared responsibilities, including committee service, academic advising, and participation in departmental governance. Candidates should demonstrate a record of, or strong potential for, effective service and collective decision-making.
