An ideal candidate would have a demonstrated research agenda in intelligence studies or a closely related field (e.g. national security, homeland security, etc.), and experience working in the field of intelligence. ABDs with firm completion date prior to August 1, 2026 will be considered. A juris doctorate degree is not sufficient.

Position Details:

The School of Criminology and Security Studies (SCSS) at Indiana State University welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in its Intelligence Studies program. The position will begin August 1, 2026.

Indiana State University is a comprehensive institution of higher education with approximately 8,000 students. The School of Criminology and Security Studies is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, and has three major programs: Criminology and Criminal Justice, Cybercriminology and Security Studies, and Intelligence Analysis. As a result, the School is multidisciplinary in nature, with a broad emphasis on justice and national/homeland security matters. The School offers bachelor's and master's degrees in both on-campus and online programs, and enrollments have risen to over 600 undergraduate and graduate students. The Intelligence Studies program is designed to prepare students for careers in the collection and analysis of intelligence, whether in federal, state, or local government, law enforcement, or the private sector. The Intelligence Studies major includes concentrations in intelligence collection and operations, and in intelligence analysis. The School provides consulting and training services for public and governmental agencies through its Institute of Criminology. The School has modern classroom facilities including a crime lab, cyber lab, and "smart rooms" for interactive video and computer instruction. Also, our programs offer various internship opportunities, including four internal investigative units that provide hands-on experiences for our students. Qualifications and Duties:

Candidates are required to have a doctorate in Intelligence Studies, National Security, Political Science, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related fields. An ideal candidate would have a demonstrated research agenda in intelligence studies or a closely related field (e.g. national security, homeland security, etc.), and experience working in the field of intelligence. ABDs with firm completion date prior to August 1, 2026 will be considered. A juris doctorate degree is not sufficient. The successful candidate will principally teach courses related to intelligence operations (e.g. Intelligence Analysis, Geospatial Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Tactical Intelligence, Crime Analysis, Law Enforcement Intelligence, Drug Enforcement Intelligence, etc.). Courses offered will include both on-campus and online formats, and will be at the undergraduate as well as graduate level. The successful candidate will eventually have an opportunity to develop new courses based on their areas of specialty. The typical teaching load for faculty members who remain productive scholars is 3 courses per semester. Summer teaching opportunities are also possible for those who are interested. The successful candidate will also be required to provide evidence of an active or developing research agenda. Professional experience in a culturally diverse environment is also desirable.
