Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Department of International Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of International Studies, beginning August 2026.
The Department seeks a faculty member whose teaching and research interests complement the department's current concentrations in global governance, environment and development, or social and cultural dynamics. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in global health and/or human security. The successful candidate will teach courses in area of specialization along with introductory courses in International Studies and an interdisciplinary research methods course. The position carries a 2-3 teaching load.
Strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service is required. The successful candidate will directly support our college's strategic priority of promoting interdisciplinarity and must possess the interdisciplinary expertise necessary to employ this approach both as a pedagogical method and as a central focus of coursework within the International Studies Department, as well as in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program when needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- PhD in International Studies, Global Studies, or a closely related discipline Please note: Applicants who are ABD at the time of application will be considered; however, doctoral degree must be conferred by August 1, 2026 to be eligible for employment.
- Demonstrated teaching and research interests that complement the department's current concentrations in global governance, environment and development, or social and cultural dynamics
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- a background in global health and/or human security
- a commitment to exceptional teaching at the introductory level and upper-level undergraduate courses in their specialty
- the ability to support the established undergraduate programs within the Department of International Studies
