The post will commence in September 2026.

Outstanding candidates whose core research examines crime and/or criminal justice with a demonstrable research interest in international social and public policy, are invited to apply. Our department is multi-disciplinary, with scholars from Anthropology, Criminology, Demography, Development Studies, Economics, History, International Relations, Law, Political Science, Psychology, Social Policy, and Sociology. As a mixed methods department, we value diversity of research methodology and epistemology.

Candidates will have:

  • A completed PhD (or be close to obtaining one) in criminology/criminal justice, international social policy or public policy, or a related area in the social sciences by the post start date;
  • A track record or trajectory of internationally excellent publications;
  • Proven ability, as evidenced by existing publications, or potential to publish in top journals or with leading book publishers;
  • A clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that has the potential to result in world-leading publications;
  • The ability to teach students on the department’s MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy and the MSc and BSc in International Social and Public Policy;
  • Ability to act as secondary supervisor to PhD students; and
  • A commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students, including pastoral care, as evidenced, for example, by reviews of teaching quality by colleagues and student feedback.
