About the Department of Chemical Pathology
Established in 1983, the Department of Chemical Pathology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is one of the few independent departments of Chemical Pathology in the world. With a mission to advance the science and practice of chemical pathology through education, research, and clinical service, the Department has established a distinguished reputation for pioneering discoveries and impactful contributions to the field of medicine and biomedical science.
The Department's academic interests span molecular diagnostics, plasma nucleic acid biology and applications, the genomic basis of diseases, diagnostic applications of next-generation DNA sequencing, allergic diseases, inborn errors of metabolism, bioinformatics, and stem cell biology and regeneration. Located at the Prince of Wales Hospital, the Department serves as a leading diagnostic and teaching hub across CUHK and the Hospital Authority, upholding a deep commitment to nurturing scholars and fostering a culture of lifelong learning and innovation.
The department is now seeking a dedicated and dynamic scholar to join us. The successful candidate will contribute to our vibrant academic community through high-quality teaching, impactful research, and institutional service.
Key Responsibilities
The appointee will:
- (a) deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision and mentorship;
- (b) conduct cutting-edge research, maintain a strong publication record, and secure research funding; and
- (c) undertake administrative duties to support the growth and operation of the Department, Faculty and University.
Requirements
Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
- (i) a PhD degree in Molecular Medicine or a closely related discipline;
- (ii) a solid track record in independent research, high-impact publications and research supervision and mentorship; and
- (iii) prior experience in liquid biopsy research is highly desirable.
Terms of Appointment
The appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, which, subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.
