The Department of Music and Performing Arts at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Music (Performance and Music Education Pre-Certification), BS in Music Recording Technology, BS in Audio Production, BA in Theatre (Performance and Technical Theatre) is seeking to fill the Assistant Professor of Art position at the start of Fall 2025.

The Assistant Professor in Art is a tenure-track position at Hampton University, focusing on teaching and engaging with undergraduate students. The role emphasizes a strong commitment to academic life and requires a significant record of exhibitions or professional activities in the field of art. The position is designed for candidates who are knowledgeable about contemporary, critical and theoretical issues in art, and who can contribute to the university's academic community.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with drawing
• Experience with painting
• Experience with sculpting
• Experience with graphic design
• The position is designed for candidates who are knowledgeable about contemporary critical and theoretical issues in art, and who can contribute to the university's academic community
• M.F.A., Ph.D., or D.F.A. in Art
• Knowledge and ability to teach courses in Humanities
• Full-time teaching experience in art
• Significant record of exhibitions or professional activities in art
• Knowledge of contemporary critical and theoretical issues in art
• Leadership skills and a commitment to academic life
• Familiarity with teaching in a diverse setting

Additional Responsibilities

• Engage in university academic life and contribute to departmental activities
• Participate in curriculum development and academic advising for students
• Maintain a significant record of exhibitions or related professional activities
• Foster a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching
• Other duties assigned by the department chair
