This is a tenure-track assistant professor of art (9-month appointment; with specialization in Painting and Drawing) position. Duties also include service to the Visual Arts Program including attending faculty meetings, mentoring students, assisting with management of the TAMIU Art Gallery, and conducting community engagement activities. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest and most comprehensive college at the university. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts features vibrant programs in art and music, along with dynamic and expanding programs in dance and theatre.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a 1) an earned MFA degree in painting or studio art prior to the start of the 2025-2026 academic year; 2) must have a portfolio of student work that demonstrates the candidate's proficiency in teaching painting, drawing, and the elements and principles of design; 3) experience in external granting writing or securing external grants or demonstrated experience in securing grant funding; and 4) experience participating in department, college, and university service and initiatives. We strongly encourage candidates with 1) college-level teaching experience; 2) professional experience maintaining a studio practice in painting and related media, including any of the following: mixed media, installation, and interdisciplinary studio practices; 3) An interest in teaching a special topics course in contemporary painting or a hybrid traditional and/or conceptual course; and 4) Experience working collaboratively and across disciplines.

We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
