Here’s how you will support our mission
CBC is currently seeking an outstanding and enthusiastic individual to teach microbiology courses within the discipline. The Assistant Professor of Biology plays a critical role in advancing the College’s mission to inspire, educate, and support students in their pursuit of academic and career success. They will mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, and collaborate with colleagues while maintaining a student-centered approach that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will also foster an inclusive learning environment, encouraging student achievement, and participate in professional development. The selected candidate must be prepared to instruct a range of Biology courses, especially those involving microbiology.

This position reports to the Dean for Math, Science & Engineering.

The salary range for this position is $80,024.00 - $84,074.00 for a 176-day contract over the Instructional Year (Fall/Winter/Spring Quarters). Additional compensation may be available for assignment of summer quarter courses or courses taught outside of the full-time position during fall, winter and spring quarters. This position is in a hard to fill discipline eligible for additional money per MOU 002 – Hard to Fill Supplemental Pay and would receive an additional stipend. This is not a guarantee of compensation and is subject to funding.

Relocation expenses are part of the employment offer for the successful candidate if the candidate relocates to the Tri-Cities area from outside of a 175-mile radius.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Dedication to scholarly pursuits within one's area of specialty, contributing to the academic rigor and reputation of the college.
  • A commitment to actively contribute to the design and evaluation of learning outcomes, playing a key role in the college's efforts towards institutional effectiveness and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biology or other closely related field with significant Microbiology coursework at the undergraduate and graduate level from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • One (1) year college-level teaching experience or similar experience such as teaching apprenticeship, fellowship, etc.;
  • Experience with computer applications for instructional purposes (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Canvas, etc.); and
  • Demonstrated experience or commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in professional or educational settings, particularly in relation to Hispanic and underserved communities. This includes personal and professional efforts to address challenges faced by these populations and advocate for their success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish;
  • Doctorate degree in Biology or other closely related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • College-level teaching experience in Microbiology;
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods; and
  • Demonstrated success in student achievement and engagement.
