"Assistant Professor of Biology"

The Department of Biology at Lander University, a public comprehensive university in the Upstate region of South Carolina, comprises a cohesive and forward-thinking faculty who deliver an outcomes-based curriculum that has been carefully aligned with the goals of the AAAS Vision and Change initiative.    Our department seeks to hire an assistant professor to begin January or August 2026 with training that complements our current diverse range of expertise.

Teaching responsibilities will include at least one, but no more than three upper-level majors’ courses developed by the applicant in their area of specialization. Additional teaching responsibilities may include majors’ introductory biology courses, non-majors’ general biology, and/or human anatomy and physiology. Subject areas into which the department is looking to expand include, but are not limited to, bioinformatics, parasitology, or neurobiology. The ideal candidate will share our passion for innovative teaching using high-impact practices. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program involving undergraduate biology students; engage in service to the department, college, and university; and provide academic advising.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Contract period is nine months.

Normal teaching load is 12 contact hours each semester.

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a biological field and demonstrable aptitude for teaching biology at the college level. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
