"Assistant Professor of Chinese"

The Department of History, Humanities, and Modern Languages at the Utah Tech University invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor in Saint George, Utah. The duties are as follows: Teach lower and upper division Chinese courses and perform service to the university. Assist Department Chair, Dean, and other faculty in the program and department on curriculum and program development. Develop Study Abroad programs, be the liaison for UT in Chinese Bridge courses, mentor and assist part-time instructors, and assist in assessment process through the curriculum. Serve on college, division, and departmental committees. Advise students on general education and discipline specific requirements. Attend department, division and faculty meetings, work with other faculty in program management, and adhere to university policies. Develop and maintain a research agenda. Help develop a Minor in Chinese with a pathway towards a Major.

The position requires the following: Ph.D. in Chinese, or Language Education and Multilingualism or related from an accredited college or university. ABD’s will be considered but Ph.D. must be completed by December 2025 and initial appointment will be as Acting Assistant Professor until Ph.D. completed. OPI Advanced High or higher in Chinese prior to hiring date. Successful teaching experience at the college or university level and experience with curriculum development. Can be during degree program. No specific amount of experience is required. Demonstrated ability in oral and written communication in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Preference: 3 years teaching Chinese at the college level and/or familiarity with Utah’s Bridge Program preferred but not required. Would hire without the above preference. Mail resume to R.
