This is a tenure-track, nine-month Assistant Professor of Computer Science position. A reduced teaching load supports research development. Primary duties will include establishing an independent, externally funded AI research program, with particular interest in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and deep learning; contributing to the BS in Computer Science by teaching AI, machine learning, computer vision, and related courses; and mentoring student research and senior design projects. Opportunities also exist to contribute to the AI-themed MS in Systems Engineering. Duties also include teaching other Computer Science and graduate courses as needed; supporting recruitment, curriculum development, accreditation, and School service; and collaborating with faculty and external partners on interdisciplinary research. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems, Computer, and Petroleum Engineering. Its BS in Computer Science and MS in Systems Engineering launched in 2026. This position is part of a strategic faculty expansion in the School of Engineering to hire 10 permanent faculty members, eight tenure-track and two instructional, beginning Fall 2027.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date. Applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in artificial intelligence through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof, and the ability to teach artificial intelligence or related Computer Science courses, mentor student research, and establish an independent research program. Required expertise in artificial intelligence includes demonstrated strength in one or more of the following: machine learning; natural language processing; computer vision and image processing; deep learning; generative artificial intelligence and large language models; multimodal learning; reinforcement learning or trustworthy and explainable AI. Experience or demonstrated ability to pursue externally funded research, mentor undergraduate and graduate student research, develop advanced AI coursework, and collaborate across disciplines is especially desirable.

We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the University.
