The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology invites applications for an Assistant Professor position beginning August 15, 2026. UNC Charlotte Applicant Site | Assistant Professor

Required qualifications. A Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. Other requirements include: (1) demonstrates potential for high quality research productivity, (2) experience or interest in grantsmanship, and (3) experience or interest in teaching courses related to the department’s concentration in crime analytics, which can include the application of quantitative/qualitative research methods, data/crime analytics, and/or technology (e.g., data visualization, geographic information systems, crime analysis). Strong candidates will have a methodological skill set that will broaden the department’s existing strengths, either quantitatively or qualitatively. Additionally, candidates should be committed to high-quality teaching and mentoring of students at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

The Department. The Department consists of fourteen tenure-track faculty members and four full-time lecturers. The B.A. (approximately 700 majors and 100 minors) and M.S. (30 graduate students) degrees are offered in Criminal Justice & Criminology and the Department contributes to the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Public Policy and the School of Data Science.

The College & University. As the largest and most academically diverse college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences houses 15 departments, 13 interdisciplinary programs, and 7 applied centers. We offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs with extensive honors and early-entry options. The College plays a pivotal role in delivering on the university’s goals in the areas of research excellence, student success and experience, and community engagement. Through their scholarship and teaching, the College’s 350+ faculty members seek to deepen our understanding of complex problems and lead the university in interdisciplinary collaboration.
