Brief Job Overview/Summary

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Stockton University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Economics, beginning September 1, 2026. A Ph.D. in Economics is required, although advanced ABD candidates will be considered. We are open to applicants across all fields (JEL: A10), with a preference for behavioral economists (JEL: D91) who are open to interdisciplinary teaching with programs such as Psychology or Criminal Justice. Candidates should be prepared to teach macroeconomics and microeconomic theory at the introductory and intermediate levels, econometrics, and courses in their areas of specialization. The teaching load is three, 4-credit courses per semester. Candidates committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching are especially welcome to apply.

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in teaching at all levels of the curriculum; contribute to the University’s General Studies program; maintain an active research program with the potential to involve undergraduate students; participate actively in Program and University service; and foster a collaborative, inclusive, and engaged economics community.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Teach three courses per semester (six per academic year) with demonstrated excellence, including core theory courses
  • Contribute to the curriculum by offering elective courses aligned with one’s field of specialization to help grow and diversify the Economics major
  • Serve as an effective advisor to undergraduate students
  • Advance a productive agenda of scholarship and publication
  • Actively participate in Program, School and/or University service

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Economics is required for appointment as an Assistant Professor. *ABD candidates will be considered.
  • *NOTE: ABD candidates will be hired at the Instructor level until the doctoral degree is completed. Doctoral degree must be conferred within one (1) academic year of hire.*

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching economics effectively at multiple levels
  • Expertise in behavioral economics (JEL: D91) with openness to interdisciplinary teaching in Psychology or Criminal Justice
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and engaged economics community
