Assistant Professor of Economics (Tenure-Track)

Florida Institute of Technology, a premier private institution dedicated to academic excellence and student-centered learning, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. We are seeking a scholar-educator passionate about delivering high-quality instruction in a STEM university. The ideal candidate will maintain a robust research agenda while contributing to the vibrant intellectual life of our private university community.

Job Description: Assistant Professor of Economics (Tenure-Track)

Florida Institute of Technology Location: Melbourne, Florida

Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching & Pedagogy

  • Deliver a standard teaching load (typically 3-3).
  • Teach core undergraduate and graduate courses, including Principles of Micro/Macroeconomics, Statistics, Quantitative Methods, and MBA Managerial Economics.
  • Develop specialized upper-level electives in areas such as Monetary Economics, Behavioral Economics, or Environmental Economics.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress and career pathways in the private and public sectors.

2. Research & Scholarship

  • Conduct original research leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present findings at national and international economics conferences.
  • Seek internal or external funding/grants to support scholarly activities.
  • Involve undergraduate students in research projects where applicable.

3. Service & Community Engagement

  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and accreditation processes (e.g., IACBE, AACSB, and SACS regional accreditation).
  • Serve on university-wide committees.
  • Engage in the university’s unique mission, which may include community outreach, supporting student organizations, or interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Economics from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is completed by the start date.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the university level.
  • A defined research agenda with evidence of scholarly productivity.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to working in a diverse, collaborative environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (Stata, R, Python, or SAS).
  • Interest in developing online or hybrid course offerings.
