RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach Elementary Teacher Education courses. The incumbent would be expected to teach courses that include but are not limited to Elementary and Early Childhood Literacy and methods in other areas consistent with academic preparation and departmental needs.
- Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate on the Winona campus and online, but assignments will include teaching in Winona area schools and in online/hybrid formats commensurate with department, collegiate, and university needs.
- Work closely with Winona area school districts in a clinical experience model, including, but not limited to planning for guided clinical experiences, aligning district and teacher licensing goals, and possible delivery of coursework at district sites.
- Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
- Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
- Contribute to student growth and development including student advising, participation in student assistance planning, and review of student teaching materials and resumes.
- Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
- Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.
- Assist with regular reporting and updating of programmatic accreditation and program licensing documentation required by the MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB).
- Supervise field experiences and/or student teachers.
- Maintain a 12-credit teaching load per semester.
- QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum:Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or other closely related education program.
- Three years of experience as a teacher of record at the elementary level, having taught reading in the classroom.
- Completed and passed an evidence-based Literacy training such as CAREIALL, LETRS, or CORE: OL&LA
- Preferred:Completed doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum, and Instruction, or other closely related doctoral program.
- Reading Specialist License.
- Advanced coursework in Literacy.
- Minimum one year of experience as a Reading Interventionist, Reading Specialist, or Reading Teacher.
- Preference will be given to individuals who have experience teaching elementary or early childhood methods courses including Literacy and another curricular area.
- Elementary or Early Childhood license or able to be licensed at the Elementary or Early Childhood level.
- Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
- Experience with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
- Experience with continuous progress monitoring systems, curriculum-based assessment, or response to intervention initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.
