Description: Assistant Professor of Exercise Science (Instructional Tenure Track)
Responsibilities: Responsibilities of this 9-month appointment include teaching and service. At the undergraduate level, teaching responsibilities could include courses in the Exercise Science (ESC) program such as exercise physiology and labs, exercise testing and prescription for apparently healthy populations and labs, and nutrition. At the graduate level, within the Master of Science in Exercise Physiology program, teaching may include courses such as Client-Centered Practice, Practicums, and Cardiopulmonary courses.
Qualifications: A Master's degree in Exercise Physiology or closely related field is required. A PhD is welcome but not required. Demonstration of successful teaching is preferred. Candidates with experience in, or having familiarity with, student-led experiential learning and/or clinical experience are encouraged to apply. ACSM-CEP or similar certification and practical experience is required.
Rank and Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
The Department: The Department of Human Movement Sciences houses both undergraduate and Master's level exercise science programs. The BS in Exercise Science (ESC) program (~400 students) aligns with ACSM knowledge, skills, and abilities and is an NSCA Education Recognized Program. The Master of Science in Exercise Physiology (MEXP) program has an applied clinical focus and is the first graduate program in the state of Wisconsin to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES). The exercise science programs are also closely affiliated with multiple programs across the collaborative College of Health Sciences.
The MEXP program is currently housed at the Carroll University Center for Graduate Studies, a 55,000 sq. ft. interdisciplinary graduate teaching and research facility, however will be relocating to a new custom designed state of the art facility on the main campus in Fall 2026. The undergraduate program is located on the main campus, with recently built laboratory spaces (~5,000 sq. ft). All labs are well equipped with current technology for teaching and research activities. Equipment includes portable and laboratory-based gas analysis systems, ECG and stress testing systems, motion analysis and force plate systems, diagnostic ultrasound and EMG measurement technology.
Operated by program faculty and students, the Department houses the Carroll University Rehabilitative Exercise (CURE) Program, a fully operational clinic serving Waukesha County. CURE conducts screenings, assessments, and prescribes individualized exercise interventions for medically compromised or at-risk populations in the greater Waukesha area. The CURE program will be relocating to a new state of the art, custom designed facility in the Fall of 2026.
The College: The College of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs through seven departments- Athletic Training, Human Movement Sciences, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy and Public Health, accounting for ~60% of the University enrollment. The mission of the College of Health Sciences is to educate students to be innovative professionals who collaborate to serve the health needs of their communities. College foci include interprofessional education and practice, an integrated approach to health, innovative learning and healthcare technologies, community partnerships and service to medically underserved populations. The new Carroll University Community Health Services building was recently purchased and renovated to support these activities. The College supports the interdisciplinary nature of health science education and has received federal and private foundation grant awards to support these as well as program specific initiatives. The college has a strong staff of academic administrative and support staff personnel.
