Job Summary
The University of Texas at Tyler, a dynamic and growing institution committed to fostering academic excellence and teaching innovation, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Instruction or Lecturer. This position will start with the Fall 2026 semester.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach developmental English and first-year writing courses
- Some possibility of a section of business & technical writing or American literature survey
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of Developmental English and Chair of the Composition Committee on curriculum development and assessment
- Respond to and communicate with students, colleagues, and the department chair in a timely fashion
- Maintain regular on-campus presence
- Participate in at least one department committee in addition to the Composition Committee
- Attend departmental meetings
Required Qualifications
- MA or PhD in English or Rhetoric & Composition
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and professional development
- Experience in teaching one of the following: developmental writing or first-year composition
- Experience in face-to-face and online teaching (undergraduate)
- Experience in or willingness to teach both 7-week and 15-week classes during fall and spring semesters
- Experience with the ethical integration of AI into courses
- Proven ability in building trust through collaborative decision-making, embracing shared governance, and integrating with the community
