The College of Education and Human Development atGovernors State University (GovState) announces a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Leadership (INLD) with a focus on research methodology and the Not for Profit/Social Entrepreneurship (NPSE) concentration. The INLD program is a member of the Carnegie Project for the Education Doctorate (CPED) and is designed for working professionals seeking to positively impact the communities they serve through advanced leadership skills and sophisticated, multi-dimensional solutions to real-world problems.
The program adopts a practitioner research-oriented model with a specific emphasis on addressing real-world problems and issues within the profession. The purpose of this interdisciplinary doctoral degree is to produce advanced leaders in the fields of higher education, not-for-profit/social entrepreneurship, and K-12 superintendency.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and diversified faculty committed to preparing students to make data-informed decisions and utilize foresight in strategic planning in both the public and private sectors.

We seek candidates from a professional and academic background that reflects organizational leadership experience, academic teaching experience in research methods (quantitative and qualitative), interest in supporting nontraditional and diverse student populations, some evidence of a record of scholarship or the potential to develop one consistent with tenure-track expectations, and professional service via projects, committees, or other faculty roles.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach doctoral-level research methodology courses, including quantitative and qualitative methods and courses in the Not for Profit/Social Entrepreneurship (NPSE) concentration
  • Provide expertise in the Not for Profit/Social Entrepreneurship (NPSE) concentration
  • Advise and mentor doctoral students in dissertation research
  • Serve as a faculty member to maintain a teaching load commensurate with the duties and responsibilities
  • Provide professional service to the university and community
  • Conduct and publish research in leadership, not-for-profit/social entrepreneurship, or research methods.
  • Collaborate with the department chair and program directors to maintain program strength and quality and contribute to program assessment

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in leadership, research methodology, public administration, social entrepreneurship, nonprofit management, or related discipline with a focus on research methods and leadership
  • ABD, in the final stage of completion, will be considered with evidence of the degree being awarded before hiring
  • Teaching experience or demonstrated potential in teaching research methodology courses at the doctoral level
  • Strong background in either quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit management and social entrepreneurship
  • Ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
  • Demonstrated potential and skills to conduct and publish research

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience mentoring doctoral students through the dissertation process
  • Experience teaching in an online doctoral program
  • Experience with practitioner research models
  • Strong background in mixed methods research approaches
  • Professional experience in nonprofit organizations or social enterprises
