Assistant Professor of Music

Job Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach courses in Music and Music Education Courses and direct to the Wind Symphony and related chamber ensembles. This faculty position, based in the Department of Music, is a 10-month academic year position.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate music and music education courses in both in-person and online formats. The candidate will provide leadership for the Wind Symphony, overseeing all artistic and administrative functions. The candidate will serve as the leader for the wind and percussion areas and advise and mentor instrumental music majors with a strong focus on recruitment. Additional responsibilities may include directing the Jazz Ensemble and/or related chamber ensembles, with experience in the areas of brass or upper woodwinds and contributing expertise in music technology.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
Teaching Responsibilities
- Full-time instructional load teaching in the areas of Music, Music Education (in person and online) and directing Wind Symphony
- Regular course meetings and instruction
- Mentoring students
- Other teaching responsibilities including Jazz Ensemble or related chamber ensembles, brass or upper woodwinds, and music technology
All Georgia College & State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College & State University core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses.

Faculty- Professional Development -
Faculty are expected to conduct research and develop within the profession.
Academic Achievement/Professional Development
- Publications (editing, citations)
- Presentations at professional meetings
- Publications; peer reviewed scholarship
- identify and apply for external Grants
- Membership and participation in professional organizations
- Other professional service or development activities

Faculty - Service to Institution -
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college and university mission by providing service to the institution. Service may be at the department, college, university, community and/or disciplinary level. Duties may include service on college-level and university-level committees, advising students regarding career options, and support of department-level outreach activities with local K-12 schools, area music educators, and the community.
Service to the Institution
- Committee memberships and offices
- Direction of Programs and advising
- Participation in special programs or projects
- Other service to the institution

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
- Doctorate in music education or instrumental conducting.
- Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials).

Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence and experience as an instrumental conductor

Required Experience
- 3+ years of experience teaching music in a K-12 setting

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Additional specialty areas which may include academic/musicianship studies, music technology, and/or digital/distance pedagogy

Preferred Educational Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience teaching music in a K-12 setting
- Successful experience in teaching in higher education
- Successful experience in student recruitment and mentoring, including graduate students
- Record of scholarly activity, publications, or creative works

Proposed Salary

Minimum salary $59,000.00 to maximum salary $62,000.00.
Relocation Negotiable.
