The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology in the Department of Pediatrics, at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor who will serve as a Pediatric Pulmonologist. We are the region's only pediatric pulmonologists and are one of only two Cystic Fibrosis Centers in Georgia accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We are part of the CF Therapeutics Development Network program and are active in a number of multi center CF research protocols as well as quality improvement initiatives. This is a thriving practice with the opportunity to see a wide range of pulmonary patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. A comprehensive Pediatric Pulmonary Function Laboratory staffed by Pediatric Respiratory Therapists is located conveniently in the area of the ambulatory practice. We provide team-based care for a growing number of ventilator dependent patients as well as a multidisciplinary clinic with otolaryngology for children with sleep and airway disorders. We also offer multidisciplinary care for aerodigestive patients along with our ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and gastrointestinal (GI) colleagues. We provide care via telemedicine to serve children in areas of Georgia remote from our campus. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Clinical - 90%
Provide high-quality, comprehensive care in pediatric pulmonology in an effort to improve quality, safety and patient satisfaction. Participate in assigned clinical duties with other faculty in the division. This includes but is not limited to, call duties and providing coverage on nights, weekends, and holidays. Meet all metrics associated with Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE). Become increasingly productive through the provision of clinical services in the Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia and outpatient clinics. Meet and maintain productivity targets as set forth by the department chair and MCG Dean's Office through clinical services provided. Promote good professional relationships and build referral patterns with Wellstar MCG physicians and physicians outside of Wellstar MCG. Provide prompt feedback to referring physicians.
Teaching - 10%
Provide education and training to fellows, residents, medical students, and staff in pediatric pulmonology which includes but is not limited to clinical supervision, consultation, and didactics. Achieve and maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above the department mean. Attend 50% or more weekly pediatric Grand Rounds presentations and monthly faculty meetings.
Required Qualifications
Requires an MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent with Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification. Candidate must have successfully completed 72 months of training (including 36 months of pediatric residency as well as 36 months of pediatric pulmonology), must be eligible for a Georgia medical license, federal DEA, and be board certified or board eligible in pediatric pulmonology.
Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
